Hi everyone, Does anyone have any information about the new Master's in Conference Interpreting at the Universidad de Vigo in Spain? I saw someone mention the course in another post but the information available is quite limited. A google search yielded the following two links, the second of which is a very detailed pdf.
The website says the course was due to begin in September 2011 but I don't think this was the case. I look forward to hearing back from you. |
It seems this year it's not taking in students, for whatever reason; anyway, there's a name/phone number/email so you can enquire, good luck :-)
...and it's not on the EMCI list here either although the list was last updated mid-2011 :-) ...and it's not on the list here either http://www.emcinterpreting.org/partners.php although the list was last updated mid-2011 :-)

AIIC Training can't comment on individual schools quality, if that's what the question was angling at. In the temporay absence of our Schools Directory we recommend have a look at the following pages when trying to choose a school. The first link outlines the criteria AIIC set for schools so you might like to compare any schools you are thinking of attending with these criteria. These two pages might also be of interest. Thanks Andy. I asked the question in order to find out some practical information about the course such as the start date and cost but obviously I also wanted some information regarding the quality of course. Your links regarding how to choose a course were very helpful.

Completely off the record: I know two students who started their MA in Vigo and quit shortly after. Their interpreting and language skills make me believe them that it wasn't due to a lack of skills but more...well, because of the school's program and trainers. I went there two years ago for the Erasmus Intensiv Program (while I was studying legal and ps interpreting in Germany) and can only confirm that impression, even though admittedly I did not see much of the interpreting department. |
If you follow the link below you will see that what begins in September is the pre-registration period. Although the information refers to the 2011/2012 term, this may very well apply to the school term beginning November 2012(2012/2013 term) too. As to whether they will be taking in students this term (the term that interests you is 2012/2013)or if the course actually started in 2011, that I do not know. In general, Spanish universities tend to post this information in May, June. Why don´t you send an email or enquiry by phone? They may already have an idea. http://webs.uvigo.es/vicprof/images/DOCS_posgrao/calendario_preinscr_matricula_master.pdf |
@wardy84 The 2 links your posted were cut off and have been removed. Make sure you have working links and edit your post.
Sorry about that. The links should be working now.
1st I've heard of it, will ask a colleague who lives there and pass on her answer.
Thanks for your very quick answers. I was planning on sending an e-mail but thought I would ask for some anecdotal information first. I'll update you all once I get a response from Vigo.
Hello everyone,
I've just got an answer from Luis Alonso. He said that the course was supposed to start a few years ago but couldn't due to a lack of infrastructure. The decision regarding the course start date will be taken at some time in February. The course will not be part of the EMCI consortium and will cost approximately 1700 euros. He said he would get in touch as soon as he had more information.
I'll keep you all updated.
