Hello, i would like to enroll in the university of ESIT/ISIT (école supérieure d'interprètes et de traducteurs /Institut de Management et de Communication Interculturels) and do a master of conference interpretation but before that i need to spend 12 months in an english speaking country and 6 months in a spanish speaking country. Do you know programs which enable to spend time abroad for volunteering or an intership (with scholarships or a financial help and paid) or would you just recommend me to find a job or an internship abroad (of course paid) by myself ? Thanks in advance

Personally, I have always thought that living as much like a local is the best way to learn the culture, as well as aspects of the language you can’t learn otherwise. So if you haven’t yet made any firm decisions, try to get a job if possible. If you have to go as a student because there is no other way to get a visa, do as many extracurricular activities as possible: join groups, get a job, take dance classes... especially where lots of native speakers join in. At the same time, try and get into lectures on topics you need to know more about in your foreign language, like geopolitics, law, economics. Basically, don’t sleep - you won’t have time!
