Basir Mahmood (1985, Pakistan), currently a resident artist at the Rijksakademie, is looking for interpreters (or translators) of any language (preferably European) to participate in an art project.

The video project requires a group of 5-6 participants (2 women and 3/4 men), to perform choreographed movements in the artist studio at the Rijksakademie (Sarphatistraat 470, Amsterdam). Participants are not expected to have acting skills, but to be themselves. The performance mainly consists of minimal gestures and movements; the small text which they would be translating is written by the artist about his work. This project requires a commitment of a day (9 to 18 hours on Saturday May 27). The video film will be shown at the Rijksakademie Open, end of November, when 45 resident artists open the doors to their studio and present their work to the public. The event draws 8000 visitors every year.

The artist’s work can be viewed on the artist website: www.basirmahmood.com
